Monsoon Season
We had our first big monsoon last week and the girls loved the muddy aftermath; the storm cooled everything down and we had a much-needed break from the otherwise relentless heat. Monsoons cause me to get philosophical about life. The same life I was saying, "Sucks!" last week is better this week. And it really doesn't. Suck, that is. But it is hard sometimes. Relentless, like the heat. Barren, like the desert. Hard, like the desert floor after it's been baked for months. And then comes the rain. Monsoons are dramatic. The change from the sun beating down to clouds rolling in and rain pouring down can be sudden. Floods happen. Plants get fed. Kids play in the mud.
We moved to Arizona thinking it would be relatively simple for Bill to transfer his license from California. Not so, we've since found. This journey to the license is now sixteen months long and counting. It's been financially hazardous, emotionally draining and spiritually challenging. Early last week, we weren't sure how we were going to pay our bills. As we are in the habit of doing, we prayed. A lot. We've been praying all along but the answer has been, undeniably, "Wait." I really hate waiting. And it was getting tense around here. But by the end of last week, in stepped a few key people in the community who see what they have in Bill (therapist extraordinaire) and they are finding ways to pay him for what he can provide. Actual amounts have not been determined, much less delivered. But deliverance is what we are experiencing, just in the hope and the belief that we are being provided for, as we have been all along. Like a monsoon on a blistering hot day. We are grateful for just the hope of what is to come. And we feel the weight of the last year and a half lifting. It's been tough but God is faithful and His mercies never end. Even when I can't see the end. They are never. Ending.
We celebrated Abigail's 21-months this evening by going to Monsoon Monday Night at the Children's Museum. The $1 admission can't be beat and the kids had a great time. As we were driving home, a song cried out from the radio, "Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord!" My eyes welled up as I praised Him for what He's been doing in my life as I've waited (and waited). Strength is rising.
"I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord." Psalm 40:1-3
